Age, pregnancy, weight changes and gravity can all affect the appearance of your breasts. While these changes are natural, they may leave you feeling less confident about your appearance. A breast lift, also called mastopexy, can help restore a more youthful breast position and shape, helping you feel more like yourself again.

Understanding Breast Lift Surgery
A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to restore the youthful position and shape of the breasts. Over time, factors such as aging, gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations can cause the breast tissue to sag, leading to a less firm and aesthetically pleasing appearance. A breast lift addresses these concerns by surgically repositioning descended breast tissue, reshaping the breast mound, and elevating the nipple-areola complex to a more youthful and natural position.
Unlike breast augmentation, which focuses on enhancing breast size by adding volume through implants, a breast lift primarily works with your natural breast tissue. This approach ensures the breasts achieve improved contours, symmetry, and proportionality without altering their overall size unless combined with other procedures. The surgery aims to create a firmer, rounder breast shape by removing excess skin, tightening surrounding tissue, and adjusting the nipple placement.
For women who experience changes such as elongated or drooping breasts, downward-facing nipples, or stretched areolas, a breast lift can provide a significant aesthetic and emotional boost. By reshaping and lifting the breasts, the procedure enhances not only physical appearance but also self-confidence, allowing women to feel more comfortable and empowered in their own bodies.
Modern breast lift techniques are tailored to individual anatomy and goals, ensuring natural-looking results with minimized scarring. Whether addressing mild sagging or more pronounced ptosis, a breast lift is a versatile and effective option for rejuvenating the breast profile and achieving a more youthful silhouette.
Why Women Choose Breast Lift Surgery
Many women find that life’s natural changes have profoundly affected their breast appearance. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, while beautiful aspects of motherhood, can lead to a loss of volume and firmness in the breasts. Similarly, significant weight fluctuations, whether through weight loss or gain, can stretch the skin and weaken the supporting tissues, leaving the breasts with a deflated or uneven appearance. Even without these factors, the simple and inevitable effects of aging and gravity over time can cause the breasts to sag and lose their youthful perkiness.
These changes often manifest in noticeable ways, such as:
- Noticeable breast sagging below the breast crease
- Nipples that point downward instead of forward
- Stretched or enlarged areolas
- Asymmetry between breasts
- Loss of the natural breast shape
These physical changes can impact self-confidence, making it difficult for women to feel comfortable in their clothing, swimwear, or even their own skin. A breast lift addresses these concerns by restoring the breasts’ shape, position, and symmetry, helping women feel rejuvenated and confident once again. For many, this procedure marks a significant step toward embracing their body’s natural beauty and reclaiming their self-assurance.
Combining Procedures for Optimal Results
While a breast lift alone can create beautiful results for many women, some patients benefit from combining their lift with other procedures. Your surgeon might recommend breast augmentation if you’ve lost significant volume, particularly in the upper portion of the breasts. Alternatively, some women choose to reduce their breast size while lifting, achieving both optimal size and position in a single surgery.
What to Expect During Your Consultation
Your journey begins with a thorough consultation at Northstate Plastic Surgery. During this important meeting, your surgeon will:
- Examine your breasts’ current position, size, shape and skin quality
- Listen carefully to your goals and concerns
- Discuss your health history and lifestyle factors
- Explain the surgical techniques that might benefit you
- Review potential risks and expected recovery time
The Breast Lift Procedure
Modern breast lift techniques have evolved to minimize scarring while maximizing results. Your surgeon will choose the most appropriate incision pattern based on your breast size, shape and degree of ptosis (sagging). The procedure typically takes two to three hours under general anesthesia.
Your Recovery Journey
Recovery from breast lift surgery progresses in stages. Most patients return home the same day as their procedure. You’ll need to wear a special surgical bra to support your breasts as they heal. While you’ll need to limit physical activity initially, most women return to work within one to two weeks, with full activity resumption by six weeks.
Long-Term Results and Maintenance
A breast lift creates lasting improvements to your breast position and shape. While natural aging will continue, maintaining a stable weight and following your surgeon’s care instructions can help preserve your results for many years. Many women find that their enhanced breast appearance allows them to feel more confident in clothing and swimwear, improving their overall quality of life.

People Can't Believe I'm 75!
by Joanne Wilburn
Category: reviewsI'm 75 years old, and recently upon visiting various doctors, I've had three of them either walk past me staring or even walk past the examination room, not recognizing their 75 year old patient. I've even had one nurse tell me the doctor thought he had the wrong person in the examination room because my skin looked so young! People actually come up to me and ask to touch my face. I love it!
Professional and caring, skilled healthcare team!
by Stacey Longtin-Horton
Category: reviewsIn late October I had a work-related injury that resulted in a partial amputation of my left thumb. Because my bone was exposed, reconstructive surgery was needed in order to minimize infection and to save what I had left of my thumb. Dr. Kevin Myers determined that a Moberg advancement flap was the best option to maintain full range of motion and the most thumb length possible. My overall experience here was absolutely amazing! The entire staff was very accommodating and kind and worked in a very professional matter. They were always there to answer questions when I had them. My surgery went very well, and recovery was easy. A little over two months later, I now have a fully functioning thumb with full feeling and full range of motion! I am totally impressed with the work that the healthcare staff did! Although I hope to never need any reconstructive surgery again, I would not hesitate coming back here if I needed to for any issue. 100% would recommend to friends or family.
