Has a significant weight loss left you with loose skin on your arms? Do you have fat under your arms even though you are a healthy weight? Do your arms look like bat wings and leave you feeling insecure when you wear certain clothing? If you can answer yes to any of these questions, we can help. At Northstate Plastic Surgery Associates in Chico, CA, we offer the arm lift, a procedure that will improve the appearance of the upper arms.
How Long Does an Arm Lift Last?
The results from an arm lift are long-lasting and semi-permanent. They correct the current state of your arm but do not prevent future skin sagging that may occur due to aging or as a result of any additional weight gain. As the aging process occurs or continues to occur after your procedure, there will be a natural loss of firmness in your arms, however, there are some ways that you can maintain your results over time.
Ways to Ensure Long-Lasting Results
As with any procedure that removes excess body fat, you play a significant role in achieving and maintaining the most long-lasting results. There are ways to ensure that the results from your arm lift last as long as possible, and that’s where you come in. When you choose this procedure, you need to know ahead of time that while you will get the results you are looking for, you must be committed to a lifestyle that includes a healthy diet and a regular exercise routine.
Exercise
An arm lift isn’t a free pass to avoid exercise, but instead, it is what will help ensure that your arms look as good as possible post-procedure, and remain that way. Your exercises should be challenging, get your heart rate up, and make you sweat. You don’t have to perform intense exercise every day, but you should challenge yourself and build up your strength.
Perform Strength Training Weekly
While regular cardiovascular exercises will help you maintain your weight, doing extra cardio doesn’t tone your body or change the shape of your muscles. When you lose weight by doing cardio, it will only make you a smaller version of yourself. Weight training is the key to toned arms. Choose an exercise plan that includes full-body exercises, as well as specific arm-toning exercises with weights that are heavy enough to challenge you for best results.
Eat Healthy
Health and fitness experts say that your diet results in 80% of how you look. This should motivate you to adopt a cleaner diet if you haven’t done so already. Focus on plenty of lean proteins, plant-based foods, whole grains, and green vegetables. Avoid processed foods, starchy or simple carbohydrates, and unhealthy fats. Make sure that you are drinking enough water each day based on your weight and activity level, and only drink alcohol in moderation.
Stay in Contact With Your Surgeon
If it important that you come to all of your follow-up appointments once your procedure takes place. Also, you should maintain contact with your surgeon so that if you do notice any changes in your arms post-procedure, you can let the office know so that we can help you in any way possible. Maintaining this relationship will help ensure that you have the most healthy recovery and the most desirable outcome.
What Is an Arm Lift?
The technical term for an arm lift is a Brachioplasty. A Brachioplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the upper arm. The purpose of this procedure is threefold. It reshapes the arm, tightens loose skin, and removes excess fat in the upper arm that causes the arm to take on an undesirable appearance. Skin tightening methods and liposuction are often used together during this procedure to create the most desirable results.
Am I a Candidate?
A consultation at our office with one of our experts is the best way to determine whether or not you are a candidate for this procedure. During your consultation, we will discuss your goals and review your health history. We will also explain the procedure and let you known what you can expect during it and after it, and allow you to ask any questions you may have. The following are ways to determine if you are most likely a candidate for this procedure:

- You are in good health
- You don’t have any medical conditions that could affect the healing process or increase your risk during surgery

People Can't Believe I'm 75!
by Joanne Wilburn
Category: reviewsI'm 75 years old, and recently upon visiting various doctors, I've had three of them either walk past me staring or even walk past the examination room, not recognizing their 75 year old patient. I've even had one nurse tell me the doctor thought he had the wrong person in the examination room because my skin looked so young! People actually come up to me and ask to touch my face. I love it!
Professional and caring, skilled healthcare team!
by Stacey Longtin-Horton
Category: reviewsIn late October I had a work-related injury that resulted in a partial amputation of my left thumb. Because my bone was exposed, reconstructive surgery was needed in order to minimize infection and to save what I had left of my thumb. Dr. Kevin Myers determined that a Moberg advancement flap was the best option to maintain full range of motion and the most thumb length possible. My overall experience here was absolutely amazing! The entire staff was very accommodating and kind and worked in a very professional matter. They were always there to answer questions when I had them. My surgery went very well, and recovery was easy. A little over two months later, I now have a fully functioning thumb with full feeling and full range of motion! I am totally impressed with the work that the healthcare staff did! Although I hope to never need any reconstructive surgery again, I would not hesitate coming back here if I needed to for any issue. 100% would recommend to friends or family.
